fic rec (SGA) - The Truth Will Get You Laid

Mar 21, 2010 12:10

I usually ship Jennifer only with Rodney or sometimes Teyla but after reading this I'm totally ready to board the HMS Cadman/Keller. This story is cute and funny. It's got Jennifer in competent! doctor mode, which I can really never get enough of. And we get to see what's going on in Laura's head (aided by yet another unfortunate incident with ( Read more... )

Wait... does EVERYONE speak Japanese around here?!? (This is my deep, deep envy of multilingual skills speaking. I wish so hard that I had such abilities. Curse my inevitable laziness. *g*)

On a less selfish note: I hope your muscle gets better soon!

Wait... does EVERYONE speak Japanese around here?!?

Heh. Quite a few people, apparently.

If you want to learn a foreign language for fun, I can really recommend Japanese. First of all it's interesting to learn a language that is structured completely differently from what we're used to (after I started learning Japanese, all European languages seemed to be basically the same). And Japanese, in the beginning, isn't all that hard because the basic grammar is very simple. Neither verbs nor nouns are flexed. There's no plural. There are only two tenses.

Of course eventually it becomes all the trickier, when you start building complex sentences using simple building blocks. And then there's the different levels of politeness. But in the beginning, Japanese really not hard to get into! And the writing is pretty. :)

On a less selfish note: I hope your muscle gets better soon! Thanks! Me too. I've been really good for the past three days and didn't overexert it, and I think that helped. I just need to be patient, and I'm not really ( ... )

Great, eh? And the animation is so good! It must've taken ages to make all of these.

Thank you for the rec! :D

It's really hard to find good femslash in this fandom - you wouldn't happen to know if there's a community for it, would you? (Particularly Teyla/Jennifer)

Really hard to find. Have you read the Teyla/Jennifer one by monanotlisa? And then there's one somewhere on my to-rec list... *browses*... ah yes: Builds character by pentapus.

you wouldn't happen to know if there's a community for it, would you?

Not off the top of my head. I have a few female-char comms friended but I rarely if ever see that pairing on my friends list.

Hey, have you thought about asking on sgagenrefinders? That might yield better results. And, it would come with an added benefit... seems like so often when someone asks for fic featuring a woman, it's to show her as incompetent or evil and put in her place by one of the guy characters, and I think what this comm could use is lots of positive requests to balance it out and feel more inclusive. I really hesitated before posting my request for fic with awesome chicks, because that comm can feel rather uninviting if you're fangirling Keller or Carter. But I got a lot of positive replies, and it prompted one or two posts in the same vein...

Glad you enjoyed the rec! :)

Thanks for that rec too :) (And yes, I have read the other one you mentioned.) I have to admit that sgagenrefinders intimidates me - I'll think about it for a while before posting there :P

I only seem to have the one (that I can think of at this moment) het ship, which is Rodney/Jennifer, but I ship about every permutation of femslash in the SG 'verse. Which is useful, since they're so rare *g*

Maybe I'll add T/J fic to the very long list called 'Things I'm Intending To Write Someday'...

Sorry for the many edits, my grasp of html has temporarily left me...

I can see that. Eh, if you feel uncomfortable posting there, I can include it in my next search. I'm gonna ask for some pretty out there stuff.;)

Someone just posted another search for evil!KellerOMG; I feel the need for something to balance out the Fail... really, this fandom sometimes... *grumbles* I really wish there was a killfile extension not just for comments, but for top-level posts as well. So I don't ever have to read anything people like that post, ever again.

Another on the FMA bandwagon! Huzzah. I got completely hooked on the new anime (and from there the manga) a few months back, and I'm loving it. It's the first time in a long, long time that I've regularly watched an actively airing show, instead of belatedly catching something on dvd.

And hee, yeah. I'm always entertained every time I spot a word I've learned from anime on my class vocab lists! Mind you, some of the words I figure it'll be a good while before that ever occurs; absolute destiny apocalypse, for example, is probably not likely to be relevant to the low-level language class I'm taking.

However, Fullmetal Alchemist means I giggle inside my head every time we discuss whether or not it's raining.

*happily joins you on the bandwagon* Yup, I got into anime. Finally! I really tried, before, only I never saw the appeal. I mean, I'm learning Japanese. How can you learn the language and not be into this really huge part of the culture?

hee. Last week in Japanese class I was giving a brief talk about the perils of human transmutation and the Elric brothers' quest for the philosopher's stone. The choice of topic was up to me and I made good use of that. :)

But yeah, most of the new words I learn are somehow military or battle related and not very likely to come up in class. (Though I fondly remember our second Latin lesson, "at the Colloseum", with the sentence "suddenly Syrus attacked, wounded, killed." That was in grade 6 and my dad was pretty agast at what they made us read but I was pretty okay with it...)

Hee! Oh, man, that's an awesome talk to get to give. I approve wholeheartedly. I'm just in my second semester -- I get to take free classes through work, so hey, why not dabble in Japanese? -- so it'll be a while before I can sneak in my geekery quite that dramatically.

Ohhhh, Latin. I remember in high school at one point, I looked to see if I could find a word for killing/violence/maiming for every letter of the alphabet in our textbook's glossary. I could.

Yeah, those old Romans... sure knew how to party.
