part III - Writercon

I had to go all the way back to skip=400, and I'm caught up with the flist... though now my to-read folder is overflowing.

Writercon was excellent, I'm very glad I went. I finally met friendshipper. And sgatazmy and greyias. And pukajen, whom I just had dinner with a few days before at Comic Con. missmurchison and revdorothyl who graciously offered me a place to stay when the Minneapolis hostel turned ( Read more... )

That all sounds wonderful. What fun for you to meet all these people! Especially that little former-mods-of-BBF get together :)

fan-cons are just the best.

I haven't been to many fan-cons, only SD before, but I really liked this one.

On the first day I was wearing my Serenity t-shirt and got approached but three or four people who were all like, "You're a Brown Coat *glomps*!" and I hastened to say that I was mostly wearing it because I think the design is shiny. I mean, I've watched Firefly and Serenity of course, and own the DVDs but I'm not a 'Fan' fan. So the next day I made sure I was wearing a t-shirt with an SGA pic. Only at writercon, ey... :D

Heh. Yeah, I still went by the user name vohwink back then. I hadn't been aware that you were on BBF, either! Ah, good times... a little crazy on occasion... *nostalgic*

I very much enjoyed Writercon, so much interesting conversation going on there, and so great to meet y'all in person. I hope I'll be able to come to the next one (I'm kinda hoping it'll be somewhere on the east coast; that might make it easier and cheaper for Europeans to attend, perhaps...)

Oi, I didn't know it was in Minneapolis. I've been there (over ten years ago for 6 months) and I still love the city.

I hope you had a GREAT time!

Well, I had a great time at the con, but as to Minneapolis the city, I wasn't crazy about it. Maybe you had to be there for longer to appreciate it... but as a fresh air aficionado who strongly dislikes any kind of AC (and by 'strongly dislike', I mean 'hate' ;) , the tendency to seal themselves off hermetically drove me crazy. It was like, it took extra effort to avoid air-conditioning and breathe some proper air for a short while. I understand that it gets lousy cold there during the winter, but I would think people would be all the more eager to catch some sun rays and unfiltered oxygen during the summer...

(Everybody else seemed to really like the city, though.)

(uh, sorry, I seem to have dropped all my conversations two months ago ;/ )

Minneapolis has unbearable weather in summer, too, unfortunately. It's humid and hot. There are like two nice weeks in spring, and two nice weeks in autumn. The rest is sweltering heat or biting cold. *shrug*

It's even worse when you get a little outside the city, because there are so many lakes which makes it even damper.

I did like it a lot, anyway, because it's so ... European. Not a very good reason, I admit. :)
