I...I have no words

George Lucas sold Star Wars? Disney plans to bring out a new movie as early as 2015? I`m rarely surprised by anything in the showbuiz these days but this? Yeah, never would have seen it coming.

This is either going to rock or suck.

I lol'd at this comment: "Excellent news this is! Better script writers they likely are."

Hee. Thing is, I believe Lucas was always mostly focused on effects and visuals, on creating illustrious, crazy alien planets, populated by crazy aliens.

Only back when the first three films were shot, he couldn`t do a lot of what he wanted to do so he had to shoot in actual locations and focus on the human characters more. And despite the story being rather simple, the movies benefited greately from that.

Unfortunately, for the second trilogy he could get lost in visuals and ignore what he never really cared for: character stuff. And I didn`t even hate the prequels, except maybe ep 1 but what good is a space battle where you can see 1000 tiny CGI spaceships fighting each other? As fast as that goes by 90 % of it are lost on the viewer anyway so in comparism the Death Star run in Star Wars with its focus on two or three ships seemed much tighter.

I agree with episode 1 being the worst of the new films, but *sigh* I'm not a big fan of the others either. Yes, they looked rather stunning, but the dialogue was crappy in some areas where you wouldn't expect it.
Anyway, let's see what Disney will turn the franchise into...maybe they'll impress us...though I won't hold my breath at this point. ^^

They did good with Avengers, though, so I`m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

I am pretty sure after the disaster that were the last three movies, it can only get better.

Apart from episode 1, I didn`t dislike the Prequels. Could they have used up major polishing on the story and character work? Hell yes. But with Star Wars, I`m incredibly cheep, give me lightsaber battles and I can never truly hate it (except episode 1). *g*

I also think if Lucas had made those movies pretty much right after the first three, they would have been better, just as had he made all of them now, the first would have been worse. The moment CGI really became available to Lucas, it was all over.

Listening to his audio commentaries, he obviously had ideas on the character motivations and thought about their backgrounds but none of it really made it into the story, just the commentary. Because in the making of footage he spents all his time debating on stuff like how can we make CGI!Yoda pulling the lightsaber from his robe as realistic as possible. *headdesk*

I hope Disney can pull off another Avengers here.

I am giddy and petrified at the same time. *deep breaths* Hahaha!

I am crossing my fingers that it goes the Marvel route so a little bit more optimistic than not. :-)

Me too.

I mean, I love Star Wars. It`s probably my favourite
movie(s) ever. And I`d be happy to have more of them. Not even sure what Disney is planning here. Main characters? More focused on secondaries? Which era? At least with Lucas I had an idea.

Yeah, my little geeky heart is hoping for the appearance of Admiral Thrawn though. I think that would be epic. But hopefully they'll be able to pull it off. We shall see. :-)
