And he wished, for the thousandth time, that she would, could, open her eyes and recognise that in him. Would let him in to love her the way he wanted to.
sniffle!... Oh, this was lovely and melancholy and angstful, all the things I like best. And it helps to know that the day he's been waiting for really will arrive, perhaps sooner than he thinks. (Though the "brittle hair" clue suggests they have to weather some difficulties first...)
Also appreciate the distinction between the emotional and the physical here--that he loves her enough to respect all her many boundaries, no matter how deep the yearning.

Me too! That, or adorable, anyhow.

Yeah, I never really got the feeling with Bill that the physical side of things was upmost in his mind when it came to Laura. Not that he didn't want to, but that he would have left that side of things entirely up to her to decide on, and he probably would have been content without it if that's all she was offering.
This is a wonderful scene!! I agree with cal. I love that line. "like there had always been a Laura-shaped hole in his heart, which nothing had filled properly until she came along. And now nothing would ever fill it properly again, except her." Just fantastic and makes my little shippy heart happy and angsty at the same time!!
I always got that feeling from Bill. Less so with Laura, but Bill from around Res Ship 2 just seemed like that was it. He'd found Laura, he'd fallen in love, she was what fitted in his heart, and he wasn't interested in discussing it. That was just how things were.

I agree that this is such a perfect sentiment for Bill. He waited so patiently!

This was another one where my last line arrived without me knowing it was coming. So that was good.

He did, didn't he? He wasn't ever going to push. He just loved her, and was just there for when she realised she loved him back.
Thanks :)
