The last time I rode a skateboard, I was probably about 12 years old. I wanted to try out the one that my parents had bought my younger brother for his birthday, so I tried to ride it down my hilly street. ooh fun! I'm totally not coordinated enough to ride a skateboard,,, check out a longboard, they are way fun too, really good for crusing, not so much for tricks ;)

Yeah, I've heard that a longboard is good for covering distance, so Steven was actually thinking of getting one, but the downside with those is that when you have to carry them around (as he probably often would on really steep uphill parts and on the train), they're bigger and heavier. I'd like to try one out, though. Have you ridden a longboard?

yea, I had one in seattle... they're not too bad to carry actually and they're a smooth ride. They vary in size too, so some aren't really that bad... I think mine is a 42"? not sure, I left it in portland ;) I would kill some people here with it!

Heh, yeah, I imagine that boarding on the streets of New York would be a bad, bad idea. At least you've got the subway.
Maybe I'll look into a longboard, although I rode on the back of a scooter today, and damn was that fun....

Wow, congrats on being successful and riding a skateboard! I have never been on one and will most likely never attempt to either. Even though I can surf... riding a tiny little board and falling on to the ground scares me. I have a hard enough time riding my bike and trying not to think I’m going to die. And I don’t think a longer version of a skateboard would make it less scarier for me. I’m a wuss. =P

Nice to see you posting on livejournal! How are you doing? Liking UCSF?? Hope all is well and that you’re happy.

With your surfing experience, I bet you would pick up skateboarding pretty easily. I hear that they're similar, though I've never tried surfing so I don't really know. I'm definitely scared of falling and getting hurt on a skateboard, though. At least there aren't any sharks on the street!

I like UCSF a lot so far, and San Francisco is fabulous. You should come visit the next time you're in California.
