Concert rehearsal ran late, as it always did. Everyone packed up, said their goodbyes and thank yous to the staff, and Sho spotted Jun in the parking lot, idling next to his car with a cigarette. He seemed somewhere else completely, probably going over the choreography for a solo number in his head. Jun was always different when concert time rolled around.
“You coming?” Aiba asked, his sandals slapping the pavement. It was really out of Aiba’s way to drop him off, especially at this hour.
“I’ll just catch a ride with Matsujun.”
“You think he’s going to let you?” Aiba teased. “Didn’t he just get the whole thing cleaned?”
It was true - Jun had been complaining about his car for weeks after one of the juniors he’d taken out for drinks had thrown up all over his interior. He hadn’t been the most accommodating about giving rides now.
Sho grinned. “I’ll convince him.”
“Buy him a hat or something,” Aiba said. “Night night.” Aiba headed off for his own vehicle, and Sho adjusted his bag over his shoulder to approach Jun, who was already stomping out his cigarette.
“Here to bum a ride?” Jun asked, clicking the button for his door locks. “Why aren’t you going with Aiba?” But Jun didn’t complain as Sho walked around to let himself in the passenger side. It smelled like a brand new car inside - they’d done a fine job cleaning it. He didn’t want to know how much Jun had forked over for it.
He turned the car on, and the cd player had already been on. He was playing Arashi music, and if Sho knew him as well as he thought he did, it was the concert track list in order. Jun lived and breathed concert time. “You tired?” Jun asked, even though they both obviously were.
“Nah, I’m fine.”
Instead of Jun driving in the direction of Sho’s place, he pulled onto the highway ramp, rolling the windows down a bit to let in the breeze. They hummed along with their own music, just the two of them as 2:59 AM turned to 3:00 on the car’s clock. They didn’t get many moments like this, alone, and Sho closed his eyes, getting comfortable as Jun drove them in no real direction through the city.
“You’re singing all my parts,” Jun complained with a wry smile.
“You can do the rap if you want.”
Jun laughed, completely relaxed as his fingers thumped in time to the music along the steering wheel. They drove around another few minutes before Jun pulled off the highway and turned back to go in the right direction.
They parked half an hour later, Jun letting the engine idle as Sho dug through his bag for his house keys. “Aiba would have tried to go to some 24-hour place to eat,” he grumbled, “so thanks.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
“He said I should buy you a hat to show my appreciation.” His hand closed around his keys, and he pulled them free, letting them dig into his palm as he leaned across the seat and into Jun’s space. “I don’t have to buy you a hat, do I?”
“No,” Jun replied, running a hand along Sho’s jaw before bringing their mouths together. He could still taste the cigarette from earlier on Jun’s lips. They were always quiet, keeping things between them. It made the moments they did get together all the more precious.
“Good work today,” he whispered, brushing Jun’s chin with his mouth before reaching to undo the seat belt.
“See you tomorrow.”
“Night.” He got out, throwing his bag back over his shoulder as he headed inside.
