Thor 2 long and massively spoilery review

Nov 10, 2013 22:07

So about Thor 2!

My broad review is that this movie forked over a heap of fannish catnip, which makes me very happy as a fan, but was kind of a mess and badly written, which drives me mad as a writer. So a lot of this is going to be critical! If that will harsh your buzz, give it a miss!

Loki's scene with the mom-illusion he made (which was seriously great and incredibly painful).

I couldn't tell if that was Loki making an illusion for himself, or Frigga going behind Odin's back and visiting via projection, because she was an illusionist too.

I am very pleased to hear that was catnip to you. :-D

Frigga going behind Odin's back and visiting via projection, because she was an illusionist too.

That's what I thought too. Especially since she appears later in the same dress to greet Thor.

I hadn't considered that Frigga in the cell might be Loki's illusion. I thought it was her actual projection, and I think I prefer that, because then their conversation was real.

It was such a classically crap fridging

THANK YOU for calling the film out on this! I've been stewing over this for well over a week, wondering if it was me. No, it's not and it deserves a good smack for wasting Rene Russo and Christopher Eccleston (whom I love and adore). I'd also add Idris Elba but at least he got more to do this time but you can never have too much Heimdall for my liking - still would like to know whether he's at his rightful place, mind... and not seducing Australian DILFs and cancelling the apocalypse!

Bad movie - no cookie.

The whole 'Thor goes on the Tube' threw me right out of the film... mainly because I was trying to work out how you get from Charing Cross (pretty much the centre of London!) to Greenwich - it's a lot longer than three stops - trust me.

Heck, even the New Statesman got in on the act - Hollywood's rubbish tube geography in Thor:The Dark World

Generic plot, embarrassing what they did to Selvig, Frigga dead to motivate her menfolk...yup, not exactly a great movie. Loki & Thor, Captain America cameo, Loki faking his death, LOKI ON THE THRONE!...damn, what wonderful fandom meat.

The fridging bothered me too. As did the shuffling off of the one non-Caucasian member of the Warriors Three.

I'm with the others that I was thinking it was Frigga's projection to Loki, not Loki's own illusion.
