I'm going to repeat what I just said in Kass's journal.
This current situation bewilders me. I have no idea where all the negativity is coming from and I don't understand it. The OTW is the best example of gift economy I have ever seen. The people running it are smart, compassionate and above all, generous people. I don't even want to know what's going on, just know that you have my FULL support. And THANK YOU !!!
I think you're wonderful, and I appreciate everything that you do, especially because I don't have the first clue about WHAT you're doing, most of the time. I can't make things like the AO3 happen, so I am eternally grateful to the people who can.
A while ago, when you were here in town and we went on our adventure/misadventure, the best part of all that was that I got to know you better in a context that was different from all the projects you've worked on -- and I really enjoyed that. You said something that always stuck with me -- that you were good at coming up with ideas and solutions, but didn't enjoy managing them after they'd gotten off the ground, preferring to hand them off to people and stay involved on the side or as a contributor. I thought that was awesome, because I'm the exact opposite. I can't come up with ideas or solutions, but give me a project, and I will manage that baby until it purrs
( ... )
I think so highly of you, and so highly of the things you've helped create; I know those things aren't perfect, but you've worked hard to make them great, and you have excellent people working with you to make them even better.
I've said it in other places, but I should tell you too: I think you're an excellent team member and leader; an excellent collaborator; someone who can not just take but encourage criticism and, by doing so, encourage confidence in the people you work with. I hope very much that you'll go on shaping the future of the org and the archive, helping to resolve the very valid issues that have been raised, and continuing to develop these awesome toys and tools and cons and exchanges for all of our benefit.
