Here is a pile of recs of some of the stories I missed while away at the happiness of Vividcon and my tour date -- um, authors, I totally apologize if I have so far failed to actually comment, I read most of these on my iphone or on my laptop on the plane with no internet. D:

I'm referring to Right in Two, which I think was made by the same person who did White America last year

Yeah, I agree with this. I almost went back through the vividcon posts to see if the same anonymous account was used to post both, but then I decided I had con plague and was lazy.

Edit: And now that I've actually read the rest of your post (sorry! con plague!) the Doctor Who episodes you want are Season 3, episodes 8-9, called "Human Nature" and "Family of Blood", though possibly not in that order. It's the season with Martha.

I went back and checked (I sympathize with the con crud *points at own sicky self*)

White America was posted by anonymouse08, Right in Two was posted by anonymousvidder.

*nods* Similarly the email address used for the submission was different each year.

While in principle I have the technical ability to find out if the vids were uploaded from the same IP address or if they were uploaded at the same time as vids that weren't anonymous and hence "out" the vidder, I refuse to do so and hence wish to maintain the anonymity.

I think there is a valid discussion to be had about the value of anonymous expression at VVC but in this instance I can't say that a) this is the same voice nor b) that this is an unexpected outcome :)

I totally agree the vidder shouldn't be outed after the fact, even if that were possible. It's a suspicion I don't ever expect to have confirmed/refuted, and I don't really care about it going backwards tbh.

Going forward, though, yeah -- it's clearly to be expected now after it's been done twice, and it seems likely to me either this same vidder or copycats will probably continue to take the trolling opportunity. I'd personally just rather see the door closed on it.

That part, I agree with. The rest, I dunno. It's hard for me to say, because I thought White America was just awful, but this one seemed to have a more coherent message to me. The vidder's comments on the vid when he/she posted it pretty much matched up what I got out of it, which was anger at the show's internal racism, at a passive god, etc, tho I think it was hard to really dig down to that message because of the presentation. But you know. You and others could be totally right. It's hard for me to tell.

Yeah, I totally did not get anger at the show's internal racism from that vid -- I got deliberate replication of the show's internal racism. :/

Here he would insist that he didn't write the music, just mixed it (A LOT. If we credit DJs, I think we need to credit such extensive editing job on the same level). But it really just added so much to the experience of making the vid, both by wanting to make it better because I wasn't just working with my expectations, also his, but also just the sheer fun of the community feeling.

Thank you for the rec! :D I'm in the midst of a thousand and two hours of RA training at the moment, but hopefully things will settle down a little soon, and I'll be able to get on the mail order bride shenanigans so all of fandom does not get on my case.

ITA re: White America, although I haven't watched this year's challenge vids yet. It was technically skilled enough that the deliberate non-parallels and incoherence couldn't just have been poorly executed or accidental - IMO it was supposed to be a nonsensical FU to VividCon.
