Also, it would be rather ironic if Castiel's brand was for more than cosmetic reasons, as in, if Dean had been in hell long enough to go demon, and the brand was hiding that (becaue heaven can't have it get out that their golden boy went dark-eyes). Which would probably be incredibly painful for Dean, though he might be so used to pain by that point that he's not consciously noticing it. *ahem* Why no, I don't have a thing for demon!Dean. *tries to look innocent*

Yes! I am believing with all my heart that's the reason for the jarring dichotomy between the characters and the most recent stories.
