GOTV in Ohio!!!

Hey folks -- there's early voting going on in Ohio RIGHT NOW, but it ends THIS MONDAY. The Obama campaign is doing a get-out-the-vote effort right now and asking for people to make calls from home even if you don't live in Ohio:

It gave me a list of people to call, but they were all local to me. Maybe because I'm in a battleground state?

If you're in a battleground state, then that is probably the best set of people to call! I am in NY, so, you know, zero point for me to call anyone in a 100-mile radius. :/

It's very, very close up here! We went out and canvassed, but I think it's time to make some calls as well.

FYI (from an Ohioian) - we can early vote in Ohio right up until Nov. 3rd, but these six days are when early voting and voter registration overlap; after Monday, you can still vote early but you have to have been previously registered. Anyone *registering* after Monday is ineligible to vote in the Nov. 4th election. (This isn't to say don't help - I would seriously appreciate any help we can get here in Ohio! - but I just want everyone talking to voters to have a clear idea about what's going on in our very convoluted system.)

Just echoing miralyn -- for the six days between Sept. 30 and Oct. 6, people can register to vote and vote at the same time. Hamilton County Board of Elections (Cincinnati) will be open 8 AM - 9 PM on Monday for those who want to do that.

Previously registered voters can early vote at the Board of Elections between now and November 3. They have extended hours Oct. 13 - 31 (8 am - 8 pm) and are open Saturday 8 am - 12 pm.

We canvassed the past two weekends, and we plan to get back out there next weekend and right on up to the election.

I'm dismayed and infuriated by the shift in attack from the McCain campaign. I hope people have heard enough and seen enough not to fall for that bullshit. Again.

This is not specifically about Ohio, but your LJ is a fairly public platform for this kind of thing. A lot of internet folk aren't the kind of people who are comfortable with calling people or knocking on doors, so you should tell people that the Obama campaign needs people who are willing to do data entry. No real life human interaction needed!
