It may just be me, don't take it too strongly to heart until you've tried it. Plenty of people are fine with the program, I'm just not impressed by it. I just don't see anything artistic about the program, you refine lots of skills, but never do anything creative, or so was my experience with it.
yeah- on the graphic design thing I think you really need to establish why you are doing it...
ie. if your dream is to make like album covers and design posters you need to realize that is going to take a lot, a lot of work a lot of selling yourself, a lot of brilliant ideas, a lot of competition and if you're lucky...buyer response.
in reality..you design layouts for big business's annual reports and outlines on fliers for like..grain companies and. yeah
creative fine arts design is only for the top players unfortunately :/ (I'm also a PU graphic design ex-)

I think you really need to establish why you are doing it...
