ok, so the oldest of our cats, the two greys, have been cuckoo for people food for last few months. i mean like munching on vegetables while they're being cut, incessantly whiny when a sandwich is being prepared, hunting, stalking and taking down rogue dumplings from the family meal kind of cuckoo for people food. i take it as just part of their ( Read more... )

Ellie will beg for table scraps much like my dog does. They both sit in the kitchen in the morning when my dad is making his lunch for work. I give her people food because she's very old (17!) and figure she deserves some treats.

we also generally treat the old cats with people food, they're OLD, for Pete's sake! but never have they been so excited about it!

cats can sense the change in weather...so they may be fattening up.

but if that was the whole truth, they would do that every year.

but also, your schedule has changed. you are not leaving them on the regular like when you were working, so they are taking advantage of that with you.

change in routine can definitely change the way cats behave.

my more timid non-people food eating - unless it's turkey or ham cat has started wanting everything from muffins to cooked vegetables lately. she is 15.

my sister's cat has always eaten well balanced meals - some cat food, but also mashed potatoes, cooked carots and green beans. she goes crazy for the sound of a can being opened because of the vegetables - she's never had canned cat food.

that totally cracks me up - BisQuit, our orange cat, loves veggies too. when he was little and took up less counter space, he used to hang around when i'd make a salad, waiting for his chance to snatch a tomato.

i may never completely understand the ways of cats, but i never cease to be enthralled with them.
