Go with the one no-fee one from your bank. Like you said it will just be simpler that way. Oh, and tell your parents to get a reality check :P The credit card is not the tool of the devil. It is a much needed financial tool in today's world. I can think of several reasons off the top of my head as to why you would need one:
1) online purchasing
2) some goods & services may require a credit card (e.g. hotel)
3) don't have to carry cash

yeah, i would just go with the one from scotiabank. i don't think you really need to worry about interest rates unless you're planning on not paying off your balance every month.. i know for me personally, i've had my credit card since like 2002 and i've paid it off every month so the high interest rate doesn't even matter. it's just best to be able to pay it off online and not have to mail in a cheque every month to some other bank ( ... )

heh ya, i already told my mom about the whole 'building my credit rating' thing, but that didn't seem to phase her. Anyway, i'm gonna get one either way, it's about time. I'd especially rather get one now while i'm still a student. I'll apply for one today.
