Some stuff I promised to get to

OK, this isn't nearly as long an absence as last time! My intention was to post sooner, but I've been doing quite a bit of cleaning/organizing lately and it's impossible to do that and type on a computer at the same time. While I don't do New Year's resolutions because I end up not achieving any of them and then feel like crap about it, I did ( Read more... )

I've become very discriminating when it comes to my TV watching as well. Tuesday nights will be a logjam, with Southland, White Collar and Detroit 187 all on at the same time.

I couldn't even give Detroit 187 a try. I like to forget Detroit even exists. ;)

After last night's episode of V, I feel it's made it's way to the chopping block.

I'm amazed you made it that long; I gave up on it last spring.

And as much as I love William H Macy (and he's the main reason I wanted to see the series), I have to agree with those who say he doesn't seem right for the role of Frank Gallagher.

Have not seen Shameless, but I saw a pictorial comparison of the British Frank and the WHM Frank, and the UK Frank is decidedly unsavory looking. WHM just looks vaguely hippy-ish.

My guess is I've seen too much of Julian Fellowes previous work and he can be a bit redundant in terms of subject matter and characterization.

Hee. This was actually a plus for me, but Gosford Park is a movie I pull out to rewatch regularly.

The thing with V is, I want to like it and I feel I should like it. The three leads are women and, for the most part, pretty kick ass and not mired in boy drama. How many shows can say that? Yet, I'm so bored. And I don't care about any of them! And even though the first two episodes have picked up the pace in terms of action and storytelling, they seem to be doing so by 'borrowing' from BSG.

Yeah, I hear that. My problem is that I'm still far more engaged in the 80s version - cheeziness and multiple problems galore notwithstanding - than this one. I really wanted to like this one, too, because I think it's awesome that the main anti-Visitors resistor is a kick-ass woman instead of Marc Singer who couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, and yet.

I rewatched the old version prior to the new versions debut and I was surprised at how well it held up. Hair styles and special effects aside. And the birth of the lizard baby is still one of the creepiest things I've ever seen on TV! Yet, they made me cared about the poor little thing. :(

I think the strength of the original is that it didn't get overly invested in the psychology of the situation. The visitors were just here to steal our natural resources and move on. They didn't hate humans, they hated that we were in their way. Anna's obsession with human emotion and eradicating it is leaving me WTF? I hate to tell her this, but if part of the master plan is to breed with humans, they still aren't going to be a pure race.

I have some more thoughts about Julie and the Derek fisaco after this past weeks episode, but I'll save them for another post. I'm still not sure they had to go there, but I feel a bit better about the storyline at the moment.

And the Vince storyline was everything I could have hoped for! Again, more later. ;)

I still see Vince's father as the villain. I don't see him looking out for his son as much as living vicariously through him and using him for his own gain. He hasn't asked word one about education...he's all about 'what can you do for me' and concerned about making his son a 'star'. He sees fame and dollar signs...Not what's best for Vince.

I found out about Episodes because of an advert after a late night movie last week, so I thought I'd give it a try. Like you, I didn't laugh once during the episode. I was expecting something... witty. Instead, it felt like a stack of cliches, all over-exaggerated. I was hoping for something more in the vein of Stuio 60...

Have you tried Lie to Me? I gave it a try because Tim Roth is the lead, and it's one of three shows on at the moment I'm actually intentionally keeping up with.

Thank you again for recommending I try White Collar; it's not the greatest show I've ever seen, but it keeps me cheerfully entertained, just like Castle does.

Are you up to date on Lie to Me? I enjoyed the first season, was so-so on the second, but had to quit this season. I was having rage issues. ;)

Again, not sure how far you are into White Collar, but it continues to get better and better. The first two episodes of the upcoming season have been getting rave reviews. It's no BSG for me, but I do love it. :)
