Ooh, wow, weren't you tempted to travel back to home in 1st class bearing ridiculous amounts of veggies in a Scandalously Not-Posh-Class way? :)
AND WHAT WAS THE BOOK? (I left this till later so I wouldn't look so one-track-minded ;-P)
Did you have to stay over-night? I think of you living Far Too Far away from London, but if you can do a day trip, possibly so could I... (I have met you once and now wish to repeat it A LOT.)
Also... the small Mouselet may have hayfever. It's very confusing because he gets snuffly around 5pm, and today we were around pollen-y stuff this morning and he didn't seem so bad, but it came on later. If it isn't, I don't know what it is (but woud be V Happy to think it wasn't) because he doesn't seem to have a cold. Do you happen to have Useful Info about how hayfever works?
Lol, I think we were non-posh enough in first class anyway without a pile of vegetables!! I did have the same thoughts about meeting up with you again because the "slow" train takes just over two hours and the fast was one and a half - given half an hour travelling from Crewe to home. We will have other Worldcon meetings in London and might be able to lengthen the stay. Our main London station point is Euston.
The book!! I've just run upstairs for it - I was going to link to it but couldn't remember how to spell the author! It comes HIGHLY recommended by fjm and is The Good People by Steve Cockayne. I was already planning to send it to you after I've read it - unless you're familiar with it. It's an unusual book but very moreish to read

Ooh ooh ooh, if you could do a fast train, I could find a way likewise! Or the lengthening your stay (there is always a bed for you here - and for J: Mouse has a double mattress which can be turned over to visitors and he sleeps fine on our floor, as we discovered when emeraldsword came at half term).
I do not know the book in the slightest, and although I'm always scared about Other Books in case I really hate them, I am vastly intrigued and would love to give it a try.
Oh, I hope it's grow-out-able hayfever. I had asthma as a kid and it's not been bad since. (Jay had it as a baby and was then okay for 30 years before it came back with a vengeance.) And also, it tends to be linked to eczema (asthma does, anyway) which Mouse had horribly badly as a babe. A cold would basically be preferable (even though there's a tiny mean bit of me thinking "oh heck, if it's a cold he'll share it with me and I DONT WANT IT!") but it doesn't seem to be working in a cold-type way, sadly.
