The painting one is for my room. I'm in the middle of painting my room right now. So i would like it to look nice. (except my room is huge with like 15 walls.)
Make sure you and the clothes you're going to wear are clean, definitely. Where are you going for the date, and what will you be doing? Dress appropriately for that, or you'll look silly. Make sure whatever you're wearing fits, and is comfortable, and generally won't give you stress by existing. You need to feel happy and confident, not having half your mind worrying about what you're wearing, or how much your feet hurt.
Forget painting your room. You do not want to come back to the smell of paint. Tidy your room, yes - you do not want to come back to a pile of dirty washing visible, either.
Be careful about the perfume: not much, if any. Different people react differently to strong scents.
Good luck! And remember, one little thing going wrong won't "mess it up", not if it has any potential at all. Friends forgive each other little tiny cockups, and this is a potential friend, not a job interview.
Shower, brush your teeth, apply deodorant, but don't mess with perfume unless you know she likes it (and then, only use a little bit), and don't worry about makeup unless you use it reguarly anyway.
IMO, pklemica offered good advice about conversation.
If you find yourself getting overwhelmed or stressed at some point, take some deep breaths. (My daughter recommends 6, the Toltec shamen I've seen present recommends 5.)
