T-Shirt slogan. Offensive?

So, I've kinda wanted an Aspie t-shirt for a while and so far "autistic kids rock" is my favourite. I think it's funny 'cause it's true in at least 2 ways, as a verb and as an adjective ( Read more... )

I think it's a great shirt! If they had an "Autistic people rock" I'd buy it in a second and wear it often. You probably won't get beat up, but some people are likely to be offended. If you're comfortable letting them know that you're autistic and proud then I say go for it. If you'd rather not talk about it to strangers and peers then you might want to be careful about where you wear it.

Ooh, thats even better with people. 'Cause then it won't be enforcing the myth that autism is something only kids have.

Yeah, it'll probably end up being one of my wear at home or to good friends' houses shirts.

I wouldn't be offended at all, I think it's a great way to express yourself, and your pride as an aspie. And I'd love a shirt like that myself ;)

I personally find it funny.
I don't think that NT would necessarily even get the double entendre inherant within the slogan. However, to increase its generality, and to make it more politically correct I would say "people with autism rock"

I wouldn't want to be politically correct. And I think of myself as autistic, not as having autism. I reject the medical model, as do many of us.

Interesting paradox there. I seem to be acting as an agent of political correctness - the political correctness of this community. Oh, well... can't be helped.

hmm... ok, how do you feel about this change. I hope that it is more suitable. people who are austic rock. My intent was place emphasis upon the person part. being autistic / autism is only part of who I am.

I find it cumbersome. But even the original, "Autistic kids rock," isn't something I'd wear. I like it, but it's just not my kind of slogan, even with the double meaning. I have a few shirts that say, "Autistic Activist," and I wear them occasionally, but not often.

I think it's funny, and I'd wear it.

My current fave that I wear says "Do not disturb, I'm disturbed enough already"

I have a badge which says that, and I proudly wear it to work sometimes :)

Other than that it says "autistic children" and you're presumably not a child, I don't see a problem with it. Some NTs might, but they have no business judging what one autistic says about themselves *as* autistic.

Personally, I'd prefer the one that says "Aspies pace themselves" because, in fact, I do pace!
