"Either you are not autistic like so and so's little brat so all your point are null (next time someone says that I want to record one of my meltdowns and post it online so people can have some damn proof) or your too autistic and you don't get it at all because your poor little autie brain can't process it"
I fully agree. I deal with it the same way you do, only bringing up the subject when the "mask" falls off.
Hell, I got it just a week ago from one "Mother of an Autistic" over on my anti-Autism Speaks Lens... Here's a short summary of what's going on, since she put half the argument in one part of the page and half in another.
Mommy: You WICKED EVIL THING, how DARE you imply I'm not a good parent, it's not my fault my son is being hauled to a mental institution by his schoolteachers and oh by the way his autism makes him attack his sister, YOU THINK I DON'T SUFFER TOO?!
Me: *gentle attempt to acknowledge / defuse anger and redirect her rage by stating that it's other caretakers like her son's teachers that are the people we're both upset at, followed by telling her that Autism may be different for each individual, but it certainly doesn't make people attack other people, and perhaps there's an environmental trigger that is causing his outbursts and if she'd actually, y'know, pay more attention maybe she could figure out which ones they are and prevent future outbursts*
Mommy: *latching onto what I said about each autistic person being
