ARGH!

Yesterday I had to pick Gwen up at school again for pulling another Autistic shut down and non compliance thing. She later told me it was a space issue thing for her in that she wanted to sit by herself but people kept scooting thier desks closer to her. She got written up on the school bus by the bus driver last month for refusing to share her ( Read more... )

Accommodations could be as simple as having a taxi service provide transportation. A child in my sons class had that because it was necessary for her particular disability. These things can worked out. I would think that if you requested the new IEP that they by law would have to accommodate this. I also thought that IEPs were done once a year. My son had them often.

The state has to pay for these things. That is the law.

WOW. Not even giving you an IEP for an autistic child is insane, as is insisting on unnecessary things that cause sensory problems for her such as sharing her seat on the bus. You need to go up through the school district authorities and probably bring in a lawyer, because the school is refusing to live up to their legal obligation to accommodate your daughter. I would consider switching schools if possible, as well.

"I am so disappointed with the school system right now."

Welcome to my world. I'm in a special education school, and we're pretty much the backwater to anybody in the district who has money.

But hey, at last I have an IEP. Not allowing a kid with clear autistic issues is stupid.

P.S. Your icon made me LOL.

there's some info about IEPs and 504s...A 504 might cover something like having her own seat on the bus, but wouldn't cover getting a taxi service to school, most likely. If having more personal space and things like that would solve her issues in school, then a 504 might be OK for her. I guess it depends what the other issues are. Good luck.
