the best kind of advice I can give is to write down what you need to say on the phone. An outline will help with something like this.

I do it all the time, and as I do that, I'm able to order things like Pizza and such, even calling up to enquire about something. Its not the same I know, but its the best example I can think of.

I hate that. I dread phone calls in general. I never felt I sounded convincing.. I even hated it for my last job when all I had to do was leave a recording *and* I had intermittent FMLA! (Family Medical Leave Act)

I know how you feel. I used to feel the same way calling in sick, especially thinking they wouldn't believe me. I just try to keep in mind that people call out sick all the time and that I have a right to take a day off. It helps.

I have the same problem with thinking that, for whatever reason, my boss won't believe me if I need to call in sick. It even extends to when I'm asked if I can cover other people's shifts if they are ill- I'm always more than happy to take them if I am able, but even when I have a legitimate conflict I fear they will think I'm being dishonest.

i dread the calling in sick part too. i've actually been told by my work i'm no longer allowed as i've "used too many sick days" on top of mental illness i have endometriosis which causes excrutiating pain that often leaves me on the floor. they don't understand this so if i HAVE to call i'm usually also hysteral and paranoid. :(
