I found this article online.  I found it amusing that Autism Speaks won't be able to eliminate autism without eliminating geniuses as well.

Try to fit more under the LJ-cut, please?

And good luck convincing Autism Speaks to remain logical. They still think chelation is a good idea.

The lj cut wasn't working right. I have been working for the last 5 minutes to fix it. Ended up deleting all text and starting again.

"the condition was up to seven times more common among mathematicians than students in other disciplines"

I think this is why so many of my friends are/were math majors.

I also suspect they would have found much higher numbers of autistics among the math majors if they'd included people with Asperger's syndrome, not just people with classic autism. When I told a friend of mine who did her undergrad in the math department at my university (University of Toronto the top university in Canada for theoretical math) about my Asperger's, she commented that most of her U of T profs were probably on the spectrum.

I am going to have to start describing people as "low-functioning neurotypicals" now. That's a good point AND it's hilarious.

LOL! I love that term! Never would have thought of calling neurotypicals low-functioning but it does fit.

I read a different paper that drew the same conclusions earlier today! Good stuff :)

Lol, why do they always have to mention Ali G when they talk about Simon? I bet he's sick of it!

I guess a few other groups need a new name change:

Defeat Ingenuity Now
Cure Human Progress Now

There's also a correlation between math levels passed and IQ. Are people who hate math more likely to hate autism?
