Hostility as a default

I've started to realize that I'm so clueless at reading people that my automatic response is to be hostile. It's a coping mechanism I've had since I was about 10 and was struck violently in the face with the fact that I'm utterly clueless at understanding people's motives and intentions...I think of it as almost as me going into survival mode. I wouldn't say I am hostile by default but I am very suspicious of others at all times and I am always on guard.
I do get hostile fairly quick but it is more being vigilant and easily angered.
Because of that my cautions can become hostile.

Ya know, I think you described my state better in that little bit than I did. With all the responses I realized that hostile was too strong a word...and very suspicious and vigilant is a more accurate description.
