I damn near have a phobia of using the phone to talk (I have no problem with text messages, funnily enough). I'll go to incredible lengths to avoid having to call anyone or answer the phone.

I love text messaging! You can do it when you feel like it and it's short n' sweet.

I've found though that I always have to ask if you have a text plan or not....some friends didn't and they sure as heck told me they didn't have a plan real quick, lol.

Heh, I only ever have to ask my international friends that, because everybody I know who owns a mobile in this country has text capability as standard. :P

Yeah, before when the plans weren't so popular, some people didn't have the 200 txts for $5 dollars, or whatever, and would get charged 10 cents a text. They told me pretty quick about that lol.

They also told me if they just plain didn't like it. :)

I dislike phoning people, as I mentioned before. When my stress levels are particularly high, I don't ever want to call my friends because I don't want to bother them or end up talking to not-my-friend before my friend can come to the phone or anything like that.

One idea might be to have a weekly "phone date" with one of your friends. Explain the idea to them and just call once a week at a pre-arranged time, so that they answer the phone and everything.

That's an interesting idea. I dont think I'll do it weekly - but there are definitely friends I should have a "phone date" with.

I actually hate my cell phone and when people call me when I'm in the store or something, but certain family members insist I have it.

I find myself reluctant to make phone calls even to check on business things. I was an office worker and learned to make the many phone calls I needed for work by following a script and by going into office worker mode. One thing that helped me was an employee course telephone manners that saved me from making obvious mistakes, and from the fear of making stupid mistakes, and taught me the various scripts, or at least how to create my own.
