Aww. This was great. Lyanna being so much like Arya, and Brandon having his own version of Ned's moral code. I really enjoyed reading it.

This is a very realistic portrait of Brandon, the heir to Winterfell. He knows he has to wed for the good of his people and his house, and yet he does not hesitate to make love to Barbrey, letting her believe he loves her and is marrying her because his father wants him to do so. Typical male, IMHO. Ned is totally different--I think he tends to match his actions with his ideals. Brandon might not keep Barbrey as a mistress and he might not have extramarital affairs when he marries Catelyn, but he does take advantage of her being available.

I love the contrast between Lord Rickard's thoughtful ambitions and Brandon's youthful carelessness.

Eee, thank you so much! This is perfect! Rickard seems quite pointedly ambitious, and Brandon not thoughtful enough to keep him out of trouble, and yet they are both connected to the impression of Stark qualities we see in the books. You can see that honor is a dynamic factor in Brandon's life, he has to learn it, sometimes struggle with it, it's not just as simple as something genetically determined, it's upbringing against other parts of his nature. And contemplating Lyanna's betrothal to Robert is a genius move because it really forces him to confront his own behavior, as you show!

Also loved the Maester Walys cameo, mysterious maesters! What were they up to!!
