[Elicia is totally grown-up. I mean, she's five whole years old! And as such, she of course needed her own room with her own little bed. One little issue: she doesn't quite enjoy the heavy rain and thunderstorm outside. She has made a resolute promise to herself that she wouldn't run like a bat out of hell into her father's room, even if the noises ( Read more... )

[For a second, she can hear an echo of that last rumble through the journals before Derek answers.]

...used to sing to myself.

You did? But... you wouldn't get scared when there was more thunder?

I'd just keep singing. Eventually, I'd either get wrapped up in the song, or the storm would be over.

What kinds of songs do you sing...?

I like the itsy bitsy spider, but big adults have more grooown-up [She cannot help but hand-gesture taller than her at this] music...

[Winry had stayed up all night, and was about to crawl into bed when Elicia's entry came up.]

If someone is scared they can try talking to friend, or thinking about things that make them happy.

Talking to a friend??

Winry's not my friend, she's my sister~♥

[She shifts to poke out of her blankets.]

What does big sis think about when she's scared?

[Okita's usually up at this hour after the New Feathers come in.]

When I was scared, I used to make a game out whatever was scaring me. Or give it a silly name. Then it wasn't so scary anymore.

But how do you make a game out of [INSERT HORRIBLE THUNDER ROAR!]

[squeak!!]

[She hides again for a minute.]

I know the sound is very scary, but think about it like this:

Maybe the gods are up there playing music. And they're just very bad at it. You should play music, too, and teach them how to do it right.

Oooh... w-well, maybe that's true...

But I'm not very good at playing music, either...

[Sup, kiddo. Storms + small child + suspiciously timed squeak, huh?]

Storms are pretty mean, aren't they? You'd think they would be nice and quiet so we could all get some sleep.

[I'm not scared, I'm just practicing to be a mouse.]

[She pops up from under the covers for a moment.]

Y-yeah... They're always so grumpy and loud and the light-en-ing can hurt someone if they're fixing their roof! I don't like them very much...

[Juuust keep telling yourself that. Also, Nami must be one of the rare few people Hughes didn't get to with his photos. She has no idea who you are.]

Are you by yourself at home?

[One in the morning? No sweat for someone who doesn't necessarily need to even sleep. Presea was up in her room, knife is hand and carving a charm out of it to pass the time. When she hears the child's voice, and her question, she blinks, and slowly smiles.

Ah, this brought back bittersweet memories of the children she used to care for long ago in her homeland. They must be so grown up now...]

I...would usually tell a story, explaining the object I was afraid of in a more pacifistic manner.

[She pokes her face out of the covers.]

...That's good, right?

[For a second, Presea was about to recite the dictionary definition of the word 'pacifist', but she stops herself. Ah, she was still like that sometimes after all...]

It means...peaceful. And yes, it is good.

I don't know if lightning can be peaceful, though...

Can it?
