And now that its done, the hard drive was still thrashing.
The cause? Four copies of updatedb running.
Many many files also affect its run time in a very negative way.

It takes *FOREVER* to copy 30GB of tiny text files (across tens/hundreds of thousands of directories) to the same disk. Well, tar them, but yeah. At this rate, it'll take about 60h. I should've started archiving much earlier ( Read more... )
