Just finished reading and I wish this was real. I can see David having faith in only two things: God and Cook. Period. Over, done with, capishe, they are and this was EXACTLY RIGHT.

Laying in bed. Teasing each other. They are so meant to be together. Sigh. Perfection.

This whole section:
He closed his eyes, content. “I can’t help it. I like to have something to hang on to at night.” And during the morning, and, really, throughout all of his life. Cook gave him that - gave him something to hang onto that wasn’t tangible, but was always with him.

Cook gave him faith in who he was, taught him to truly believe in himself, in unconditional love, in acceptance that didn’t need to be given, but had always been there. And Cook had done a far better job at teaching him that than any preacher or story ever could.
