Why you suck.

Sometimes I can’t bare to scroll through and read all of the Facebook wall posts. Not because of the obvious misguided pseudo political rants, thinly-veiled racism, or continuous misuse of “your” and “you’re”, but mostly because of this air of false contentment people like to project. You know, all the graphics and stolen lyrics and self-important statuses with that general theme of: “You know what, guys? I’m great and perfect and wonderful just the way I am.”

Are you? Really? Are you perfect just the way you are?

Well that sucks.

I’ve met you and guess what, you’ve got a lot of work to do. I mean, I see what you’re working with and sure, you’ve got a good start, but fuck man, just because you got awards all your life for just showing up and society has told you that you are unique, intriguing, and incredible for polishing a turd and calling it french toast DOESN’T MEAN IT IS.

People have done you a disservice. They have castrated your talent by constant coddling which in turn, makes you shy away from criticism. And criticism, along with desperation, is one of the greatest motivators out there. Whether constructive or not, helpful or hurtful, that shit will light a goddamn fire under your ass and make you push out those last few reps or sprint those last 500 meters - and THAT is the difference between success and “good enough.” The people who are willing to strive even after the rest of the world has told them, “Oh, honey. You’re perfect just the way you are,” are the ones who rise to the top. The ones who give 100% and know what true and genuine success tastes like. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s simply because you’ve never tried your hardest at anything.

Do you suck? I don’t know, maybe. But the one thing I do know for certain is that yes, you do suck if you’re projecting this image of ultimate happiness when you know you still have room to improve. That just makes you a fucking poseur. I roll my eyes at your cut and paste memes, or your tumblr full of ‘I am perfect just the way I am’ girl walking alone down the beach graphic. Fuck that and fuck you for not trying. So that’s it. That is now how I will judge you. Not based upon your family, bank account, career, abilities, disabilities, color of your skin, X on or beer in your hand, what you do or do not worship, or your body type - my judgment will be based upon where you want to be, what you’re willing to do to get there, and the constant fight it takes to achieve your goals.

So you have no goals? You consistently let people down? You don’t have compassion for others? You continue to go along with the life someone else mapped out for you? You’re content with what you have? What you know? Where you’ve been? What you’ve experienced? You look in the mirror and think, yep, that right there is good enough?

Fuck you. You’re boring and you suck.

But for those of you that look into that mirror and see a great starting point - the ones who see potential and hard work and sacrifice. For those of you who see a long fight in front of you and rage forward with gritted teeth, wild-eyed idealism, clenched fist middle-fingers, and a goal - you are my inspiration. You are what I wish to become.

And you are what I want to be when I grow up.
