"It's coming in fast," Lorne commented as calmly as he always did as the fighter plane shrieked down toward them, faster and faster until a crash seemed almost inevitable. Only his and Sheppard's unworried reaction kept their men's feet soldered down to the deck (it did help staying unflappable that he'd seen that style of piloting before), and then the whole plane seemed to break into pieces in mid-air.

And reshape. Still in mid-air.

Even before the robot's huge feet thumped down, the whole troop of Preventers -- twenty-five men, all told -- had out of pure, immediate spinal reflex, thrown themselves down on the ground, down behind the scientists and their equipment, or even down overboard into the sea, to the unanimous panicked cry of "IT'S A GUNDAM!"

Lorne looked at Sheppard. Sheppard looked at Lorne. They both looked at McKay and Zelenka. McKay seemed to have been struck speechless, which only underlined the utter what the fuck of the situation.

"Oh man, that takes me back," said Maxwell through the external speaker. Beside ( ... )

THIS IS ME SO NOT COMPLAINING.

First off: Major Lorne. We see so little from his perspective in the show, this was a nice change of pace from McKay or Sheppard's mindset.

Second: I seriously hadn't expected the Preventers to come into play, but boy was it worth it. IT'S A GUNDAM!!! XD I loved how they were silly but still hinted at the complexity and shittiness of theirs and the pilots' background on Earth (2!), which would explain the reaction. "I know where you sleep". *snicker* Aw man, Duo...XP

Also: worldbuilding factoids ^o^! Loving the little details, with the pier and tower names and so on.

Thanks for this (two comments-long!) drabble!

♥♥♥

I was just wondering what else could happen, and then, hey, maybe declassification on Earth 2! XD That'd mean they can channel people who still want to fight toward acceptable targets, such as evil aliens bent on using them as snacks. Duo's being mean to the ex-Ozzies though, they're supposed to all be on the same side now! it was just too funny to pass up. XD

(re: details. I AM A NERD. no other reason. XD)

I...I love you SO MUCH. That was awesome! Of course Heero and Duo would totally downplay the fact that they were sorta-terrorists and that the Gundams were basically the baddest piece of killing machine on their world (Earth 2. Ah, the egocentrism is so true-to-life), feared by all and sundry, but especially all.

That was the best use of "It's a Gundam!" I've ever seen in fanfic. And cheerfully menacing Duo is amazing. (Where did Duo come from? Did he come after Heero? Is there 1x2ness?)

This may be my favorite series of yours, although I can't help but love just about everything you write.

*feels loved yay* ♥

I think the Earth guys know they used to be terrorists/guerilla agents, they just don't mind much, but it was safer for Earth 2 if Earth 1 believed the level of tech in the gundams was more widespread. Less of a temptation for bad apples such as the NID to go over there and see what they can force out.

There is no official pairing in this fic, though there is Heero/Duo interaction that will likely end up full of subtext, knowing myself. XD Not saying how come he's here, tho, it's spoilerific.

♥ it's not really a series yet, though. I think I'll write another oneshot, maybe two, and that'll be all. I don't have enough plot for more. .__.
