Zuko had gone to find Peter again after his tasks for the day were done (not that they were ever truly done, as being Fire Lord seemed to involve an endless procession of things that needed his attention). He felt oddly responsible for his welfare while he was stuck in the Fire Nation.
It hadn't taken long: the guards kept track of people by default, so Zuko went right to him, and shortly after entering the room made a noise of surprise. Reflexively he shut the door, quickly grabbing a nearby pillow and hurrying over to beat the flames out with the fearlessness of someone who'd spent his life around fire.
"What are you doing?" he asked indignantly, even as he whacked away.
Freezing the second that Zuko bursts through the door, Peter is instantly embarrassed by the fact that he caught a table on fire, even more so that he had yet to do anything about it. Unsure of what to do with himself while Zuko puts out the fire, he just stands, slowly becoming frustrated by the question about his apparent lack of judgment. Hands clenched at his sides, he can't keep his anger from resurfacing once again, even if he is embarrassed.
"I wasn't trying to! I was thinking and it just-- I was-- it just happened!" He said, at least trying to keep from shouting.
Shouting didn't put Zuko off at all. In fact, usually he found Peter somewhat hard to talk to: he was a lot calmer and well-reasoned, and from a truly bizarre world, in Zuko's opinion. Getting angry and setting things on fire made him a lot more sure of himself.
"You picked up firebending, didn't you," he said in faint aggravation, the fire gone out by now. He threw the pillow back onto the couch. "This is way more annoying than it seemed when you first told me about it. I haven't set a table on fire by accident since I was seven."
It wasn't like Peter had never yelled before -- he went through his teenage rebellious years where he slammed doors and shouted at his parents. But he'd been angrier these past few months than he'd been in years, and it wasn't helping anything. If anything, he thought it made things worse.
"I don't know. I guess?" He's far more irritated with himself than he is with Zuko, but for the moment he's fine with just being angry in general. Instead of looking at Zuko, he just glares at the table while speaking. "Look, i'm not trying to be an inconvenience, it just happens, I can't keep from picking up abilities."
