Why don't Penny, Leonard and Sheldon just shack up in the same apartment? It would save money on rent and with the other apartment empty it would allow the writers the ability to install yet another empty stereotypical person on the show.

How does Penny, an unemployed actress working at the Cheesecake Factory as a waitress, manage to pay for an apartment that two CalTech professors have to share?

I actually have the feeling that that is where it may be headed...at least the Penny, Sheldon, and Leonard shacking up in the same apartment idea.

Or possibly Leonard moving in with Penny...

Bwahahahaha!
Good question but then there are so many problems with that shit show. (The only good thing about those kinds of shows is that when they come here, they're advertised as 'hit US comedies' so I know to avoid them like the fucking plague.)

I get the impression her apartment is only a 1 bedroom and Leonard and Sheldon's is a 2 bedroom.

That being said, that still doesn't explain it. At least in the earlier episodes she alluded to missing bills and being late with rent regularly.
