I don't even think about mine. If I happen to wear something that exposes my tattoos, that's cool, but sometimes I even forget that I have them. I got them done almost 20 years ago, and have had them for longer than I didn't. I love my tats, I have no problems answering questions about them, but it rarely happens that I get asked or that I even think about them.
Ah, the time is probably it. My oldest visible one is only about 9 months old, so it's still kind of new to me, I suppose. I guess in 20 years I probably won't care =)
Yeah, I was really conscious of mine for the first little while, now I can go weeks or months without even thinking about them or remembering that they are there.
I have two that are hard to show off because of where I put them (above the ankle and the side of my heel), but the one that's on shoulder? I LOVE SHOWING IT OFF. I get lots of comments on it, which I love. One of the reasons why I LOVE this new cold-shoulder trend in shirts is because they're the best of both worlds. I get to put fabric over my giant arms, but show off my tattoo at the same time. :D
Most of the time mine is covered (ankle) and I tend to forget about it but I love receiving compliments on it. Some of my friends with more cryptic tattoos get pestered constantly about them (What does that mean? Why would you get that??) so I can see why they get tired of it, though. No one really stops to ask me about the symbolism behind a bird.
Yes and no. Some, like the one on my foot, I prefer to keep private because it's a little weirder than most. It's a wolf's paw with an eye in it - pretty much a wolf Hamsa.
The other ones - a 19 with two stars on my right forearm, and an eye on my left wrist - are somewhere inbetween private and public. I like explaining the eye, it's simple, I got it because it was a Friday the 13th gift to myself. The 19 is a LOT more complicated, and sometimes I regret getting it on my forearm, but I absolutely love it even though sometimes it gets tiresome to explain.

I am a huge fan of this tattoo craze - I become more of a rebel every day I don't get one.
