Some of these prices are super inflated for my area. A gallon of milk is $3.32 here, a pound of butter is $2-something and a pound of sirloin is only $4.30ish. I don't know the other amounts off the top of my head. But, personally, if it meant that women COULD get free abortions and endless condoms and birth control and all the things they needed to have a safe and healthy sex life I would gladly pay these inflated prices.

What's killing me the most is that this image was posted on facebook by a FEMALE friend of mine. Enter rageface.

I...don't understand. Can't I care about both? Like the price of food AND access to free contraception? SO CONFUSED.

SAME HERE. She posted it last night and I was just....FACEPALM. I almost commented on her post, but I didn't want to start any drama. Granted, she and her husband have three kids and are struggling, but the caption irritates me so much. Yes, food prices are important, but to imply that only women care about that issue is just sexist. There's also the fact that there's so much more to healthcare issues such as family planning than "getting free abortions or condoms" and anyone who doesn't get that is an idiot.

I have no words.

So women put their lives at risk, have children they don't want and who will live a life of care homes, or become pregnant by accident and give birth to a child that was never planned and will not have the start in life it would deserve.... But that doesn't matter, because OMGMILKISSOEXPENSIVENAOOO!

Also, the whole thing that only women care? Or that it is a woman's place to care about the price of food? Or that the cost of food is in any way influenced by the availability of a fucking condom at a high school.

I'm feeling so rageface-y over this that I posted it in both my own journal AND ama. I so very rarely comment on shit like this, let alone post about it, but what the FUCK?!? Seriously. So much about it pisses me off. SO MUCH.

The biggest issue is America not using the metric system imo.

As long as you don't go to Myanmar or Liberia. I have no idea what women really care about there, but they are doing it in Imperial.

God, I'm such a stereotypical American. I don't even know wtf Imperial is.

I'm not from the US but I find this absurd in so many ways. Firstly, price increases occur for a variety of reasons, inflation, environmental factors etc. Secondly, I am pretty appalled that it seems to be insinuating that this is a women's issue - that in itself makes me feel sad inside. Lastly, and perhaps arguably, lack of cost effective abortions means an increase in the mouths that their are to feed. Population dynamics change, and that would certainly cause costs to rise, the increase in money that would potentially be put in demand on the welfare system/systems in general (from those children being adopted out, or having to be supported in less than ideal family situations) have an impact on the economy. I am really lucky to live in a state of another country that does allow for free abortions and has free condoms pretty readily available in lots of health clinics - and I think these things are worth inflation!

Yah, for starters the American economy was shit in 2008, so of course prices were lower. And with all the droughts of course food costs more lately.
