Hacked!

Oct 19, 2012 21:45

So somehow my twitter keeps getting hacked. I changed my password twice and each time someone is able to post under my account. I'm actually having a conversation with this person on twitter as they post on my account after I've changed my password. How can this even be happening?

we are not tech support

Check the apps that are allowed access to your account. It may be one of those.

I checked those. It's just instagram, twitpix, and my iphone camera.

Somehow they also know that my boyfriend is at work right now. I'm really, really creeped out.

The email Twitter sent saying the password was changed doesn't list the password, though.

ok they've installed some kind of keyboard capture tech on your computer.

I have no idea if this will work but change the password again but instead of typing a password cut and paste a word from somewhere else.

I say use another computer and change passwords to your twitter and email account associated with twitter... and anything else you possibly use the same password for.

Then start scanning the computer you normally use for nasties.

Fuck if I know, but it happened a few times to me within a span of a couple months. I think I cleared my cache and cookies, ran a scan, restarted my computer, and then changed my password. Hasn't happened since. I'm sure if you looked up the situation online you'd find some helpful advice.

Everything is just saying to change the password, which I've done. Even the Twitter site says just to change the password. :-/

I agree with the keyboard logger suspicion.

Take your machine off of the network, run all the scanners (virus, malware) in safe mode. If you done have those scanners, use a different machine to download and transfer using a flash drive.

Use the other machine to change. Your password.

Twitter's suggestion assumes that there isn't something capturing what you type.
