I've only ever experienced the physical symptoms.. but pair those with a stressful day and someone telling you you look bloated and I can see where PMS comes from in some women.

I think PMS is the result of the physical symptoms and women's ability to deal with it.

That's idiotic. I wouldn't say I'm crankier during / before my period, but I am more emotional, and RIGHT BEFORE my period, way more horny. I mean, what kind of hypothesis is it that hormones don't affect mood? Are pregnant women faking it too? Meh on it all.

It wouldn't surprise me if it were overblown. I've heard that a lot of the effects of alcohol are due to cultural expectation, as well. E.g., alcohol doesn't lower your inhibitions unless you grow up in a culture that teaches that alcohol lowers your inhibitions. I've also heard that male hormonal cycles probably have a bigger impact on mood than female hormonal cycles. Who knows.

I do think men have periods. I've always said this. I mean obviously they don't have menstral periods but every guy I have known well always has one week out of the month they are just a total moody dick. Some don't last a whole week but it seems to be always around the same time.

I've heard that men can be affected by the hormone cycles of women they live with/see a lot of - don't rely on that, but it could be the reason. You hear all the time that women who spend a lot of time together often have their cycles synchronised, so it probably is possible to be affected by other people's hormones, I guess.

I don't think so. Mens pms don't match up with my own. Just their seems to be on a consistent bases. I have even had some of them admit it and say they are on their man period.

I used to have mood swings before my period and I'd freak out over the most minor of things...haven't experienced that in a good while (woohoo!) but it was a common occurrence for me, so yeah, definitely.

It's not suggesting that women fake their PMS, just that the cause may not down to simple physiology.
