Kittybutt :(

So while I was at college not even a month into the school year, my mom and sister decided to get rid of my kitty due to flea problems. My sister was apparently going nuts, washing her hair with dishsoap and being paranoid that fleas were crawling all over her. They took her to the humane society as a stray - a fucking stray. When I called to find ( Read more... )

animals & pets, family, there goes my faith in humanity again

I would hate my family for that and probably cut them out of my life for a while.

That is inexcusable murder.

Fleas? Really? That is treatable. What pieces of shit would give up an animal for that?

No, I haven't lost a pet like that, since my family loves animals just as much as I do. Also my cats are microchipped and the company has my personal cell number so any shelter/vet who scanned could contact me and not be fooled by the lies of whoever brought my animal in. Of course I do still run the risk of one of my cats being stolen and that person never taking the cat to the vet. I keep my cats inside so that isn't likely at least.

Ugh.

This post makes me angry.

I work in animal rescue as well so I am angry right there with you and the OP has EVERY right to be angry.

Not to mention that if they knew anything about fleas (if they had them) they will still have them because of the life cycle of a flea, they don't need a pet to reproduce.

For my 12th birthday, Mom and Dad bought me a pet kitten. I named her Sassy, she was my best friend. We slept together, played, and she was so adorable ( ... )

I don't think I could ever even talk to my dad again if he did that to me. Holy shit.

After your mother died, your father killed your cat. He sounds like a real asshole. I'm sorry.

Wtf??? No you are not wrong. If it were me, I'd try to find somewhere else to go of at all possible.

I'm so sorry. :(

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. They had no right to do that to your pet and you have every right to be livid with them. I wouldn't be able to forgive someone who did that to me. I might even sue them if possible. But that's just me.

Oh, I'm so sorry your insensitive family did that to your poor cat! I worked in animal rescue for several years and it's always shocking to learn what people do to pets they've had for years. If they'd said they couldn't keep her and wanted her re-homed, it might have been different. I would be really upset and sad and very angry too. There are so many things you can do to solve a flea problem besides getting rid of the animal, I just...

{{{hugs you}}}

I hope you can try to express your feelings about losing her to your mom and sister in a rational way because if you are too upset they'll just not get it, but that's going to be hard. I would tell them that they really broke your heart and have seriously affected your ability to trust them.
