I have a package of chicken breasts that I apparently forgot about in the back of my fridge, and the expiration date is Jun 29. Normally, I'd just toss it, but the chicken looks as good as new, whereas often you can tell it's after the expiration date within a day or two ( Read more... )

I'm real twitchy about chicken, that old even if no other discernible problems? I'd toss it.

Sniff & poke test must be held above all others. I've gotten some chicken in that past that the day after I picked it up it smelled rancid and it went from the store to my fridge in less than 30 minutes and the expiration was a week in the future.

If it's not slimy and it doesn't smell...cook it. Then give it a little taste. If it doesn't taste bad, I'd eat it.
