Spoiled Meat

I have a package of chicken breasts that I apparently forgot about in the back of my fridge, and the expiration date is Jun 29. Normally, I'd just toss it, but the chicken looks as good as new, whereas often you can tell it's after the expiration date within a day or two ( Read more... )

If it is smelly, slimy, or weirdly colored I would toss it.

Really, it is so old at this point that I'd almost certainly toss it anyway, but open it and inspect it before doing so.

That was my reaction, but it doesn't smell or feel weird to the touch, and it's a normal colour. Otherwise I would just be tossing it - I just don't want to waste perfectly good food by being overcautious. :\

Yuck. Don't eat meat anymore, but when I did, it got cooked within 48 hours or went in the freezer. I don't even like to drink milk that's within a day or two of the expiration date.

If it doesn't smell, it's fine.
But I probably wouldn't cos I'm anal about dates.

with poultry it's just so iffy. i'd err on the side of caution.
