Is that even a real degree? How on earth does one get a degree in the study of alien cultures when...none have ever been discovered?

What institution granted it? The Clown College of El Salvador?

A guy I went to high school with who was the resident long-haired metalhead (we lived in a small town, so he was the only one) has since turned into a right-wing "we need to arm ourselves and prepare ourselves for the inevitable collapse of America" nutjob.

I recently looked up a man on Facebook whom I had gay sex with a few years ago; he's now married to a woman and has a child. VERY unexpected.

I looked up someone I had been friends with before her husband got transferred (military) and she moved across country. I discovered that she'd gotten arrested for getting into a fist fight with a co-worker at Tim Hortons. The rest of her life sounded like a soap opera. She'd pretended to be a guy online and wound up with an online girlfriend who showed up at her door one day (another country). Her husband had run off with her best friend. She'd gotten pregnant and gone into labour in a snowstorm while walking home from her boyfriend's place because the boyfriend didn't want to use the gas it would take to drive her home.

When I was in school, among the "freaks," there was ONE king, he was the coolest of the cool. I was only "graced" with his presence outside of school a small handful of times. I would have probably thrown myself at him in some kind of sick fan-girl type moment, but never had the chance.

Fast-forward ten or more years, and I found him on myspace. Turns out that once he got out of school and realized that there wasn't a whole lot of depth to being the cool goth guy, and he had NO clue who he was. He'd been in and out of rehab a few times and just really doesn't know himself.

It was really kind of disillusioning for me, you know? My idol had fallen.
