Okay, I'm pretty open to people's lifestyle choices, but I honestly cannot wrap my head around being straight-edge.  I mean, I understand wanting to stay away from drinking, and smoking, and whatever else comes along with it, but... People like labels and such because it identifies them with a group so they can say "Yeah, I belong to X group so I'm not alone."

Because people (especially teenagers, who are the main demographic for calling themselves 'straight edge') like labels and feeling like they're part of a group.

People want to be around like-minded people? Not always, but usually, there are some pretty strong and personal philosophies that accompany that choice... I don't see how it's any different from wanting to belong to, say, a Rocky Horror Picture Show Cast. Why does that have to have a label?
