Why do AMA mods delete perfectly good posts without so much as an excuse?

warning: user may be stupid, this user has been banned, please don't delete this one

Playing devil's advocate or acting self righteous all the time isn't the best way to get people to like you. If I acted like a prat, I wouldn't be surprised if people thought I was obnoxious and wanted my ass banned.

I'm not saying I'm surprised, I'm just saying I don't really understand the mentality because I don't want anyone banned, no matter how much I dislike them.

And there you go with the self righteousness again. It's really getting old, and it doesn't contribute much of anything to the community.

Fair enough. Still, deleting things 'just because' without another reason other than their personal preference seems pretty crappy.

Again, that's a fair thing to say. I'm just wondering why it would need to be a part of any community.

It's one of the things that makes AMA different from other communities.

After all, if every community operated under the same rules, there would be no point in having more than one.

The entire point of AMA is that very specific feel of it.

Wait. What? I agree with everything else you've said but... AMA is very unspecific.. Most communities are about much more specific things: furry porn, Dr. Who fan fic, etc.

I believe most communities do operate under similar rules (no trolling, no spam, etc.)....

I was thinking more along the lines of the dozens of other "ask questions" communities on LJ, and the hundreds of others on the Internet in general.

After all, it's already different to Lost communities, it doesn't need differentiation there. But compared to places like the random questions communities, or TQC, there kind of has to be a difference, otherwise what's the point?

Specifically, the rule here that seems to be different is that everything that happens does so because I want it to :o)

"because I can" is never a reason
its a cop out so that you don't have to understand yourself.
