The girl appeared out of nowhere.

Mikal had heard about it happening, knew it must've been the same way for her, but that didn't make it any less startling. Without anyone else nearby, she'd been on her way over when she heard the girl speak, and she hurried for the next few steps, a frown tugging at the corners of her mouth. That didn't sound at all like a good way to show up. "Hey," she said, placing a hand on her shoulder when she'd reached her, obviously concerned. "Hey, are you okay? What happened?"

Besides the obvious, of course, but she assumed that was probably implied.

It's in her skin. It creeps across, like a running itch. She presses her fingers against her eyes, squinting them closed and then opening them. It won't work. She can't see a damn thing.

At the sound of a girl's voice approaching, Alice turns trying to use her other senses to feel it out. To figure out what's happening, what will happen. She smells salt water and clean clothes and fresh flowers, but nothing else. It's all so blank. Panting, chest aching, she pulls her hands from eyes with what feels like an incredible force. She doesn't want to look.

"I'm blind. I can't...I don't know." She sniffs. "I don't know who you are. I can't see it at all."

With the way she was talking, Mikal wasn't sure if she meant literally blind or not, but she wasn't about to take chances. Brow furrowing a little, she took a couple steps to stand in front of the girl, head ducking to try to meet her gaze, to see if there was any response there. "You're blind?" she repeated, obviously looking for some sort of clarification. "Are you okay? Do you need me to get help?"

Pausing, she added, "I'm Mikal," not entirely sure why except that the girl had mentioned not knowing who she was. She didn't want to complicate things unnecessarily.

For the first time in a lifetime, Alice blinks. It feels weird, the need that she hasn't done unconsciously in so long has become overwhelming and she does it without noticing. It's rapid and fluttering and she feels her eyelashes on her cheeks.

"Oh my..." The girl's name catches her attention and she nods. "Alice," she answers. "I can...I can see you, I just couldn't before and I, I don't know what you're going to do."

The words sound scared as they leave her mouth and it's true. For the first time in her life, Alice is afraid.
