top 100 books: what have you read?

Aug 23, 2008 01:04

So I just stumbled across some stranger's blog (brother of a friend) who had this list of the top 100 books that, apparently, most american adults have only read six of. I'm almost positive I meet that goal. Let us investigate:

the top 100 books & my adventures in them... )

The English major's only read 15-- so you've got me beat. Or 16, if you count the Bible, which I've read close to most of. Or 16.5 if you count Little Women, which I got halfway through when I was small girl: I gave up because I thought stories about love and marriage were mega boring when I was ten.

Also, I think it is unethical to have the Complete works of William Shakespeare listed as number 14 and Hamlet as number 98.

Oh-- and 17.25 if you count the Chronicles of Narnia, which I read all of except the Silver Chair & .5 of the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. But again, this is also unethical, as The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is listed as a separate entity.

I would have words with whoever made this list.

Also, Allsion, you should really add reading George Orwell's books to your to-do list because he's one of my favorite authors.

I agree with you about the person who wrote the list being a little bit of a dummy. Haha. But it got me an extra work because I haven't read the COMPLETE works of S-speare, but I have read Hamlet.

also, I don't think you can list a book SERIES in a list of the top 100 books. This list is considerably over 100.

Anyway, I am not sure what the first worst book was, but I HATED Crime and Punishment. Also, Great Expectations was not great (my expectations were not met), Far From the Madding Crowd is far too long, On the Road was far too boring, Love in the Time of Cholera was frustrating (the main character was in love and would NOT just get OVER IT ALREADY... I hate characters like that. Like, 40 or 50 years went by and he was still obsessed with this girl he couldn't have. Stupid Fernando. ).... and I don't remember liking Dracula that much. :P

MROW! I've been wanting to read Orwell, but it is probably going to have to wait until the semester is over. x_X. I need to go read now, in fact. <3
