if I were an American right now, I'd be packing.

For the very simple fact that Bush is going to try his damndest to have Roe vs Wade overturned. I would not want to live somewhere that took away a woman's right to choice. I'm not saying if it's the right or wrong choice.

It's The Handmaid's Tale come to life!

I swear-to-GOD had a dream about the handmaids tale yesterday night. I was thinking about it before I went to bed, about how that nation is slowly turning into a "Republic of Gilead".

Abortion will eventually be banned, I'm sure, especially now that congress, the senate and the presidency are all controlled tightly by Republicans. It's essentially, for the next 2 years until the midterm elections, a one party show.

Gay marriage was banned in 11 states, including Oregon, a normally very democratic and liberal state. That doesn't bode well for the future of civil rights either.

Yes, I am definitely so much more proud to be Canadian. I wanted to move to the states to work for a paper or magazine down there, but I've decided it's best I wait at least four years. lol. And isn't the Handmaid's Tale a great book? I read it in one sitting. Yeah, that's exactly what's happening. But if I had to relate a book to what's happening in Canada right now, I'd say Orwell's 1984. It's getting a bit out of hand, IMO.

I LOVE The Handmaid's Tale. And I think it applies as to the whole Roe vs Wade issue (Bush wants to overturn it and make it illegal for women to have abortions).

No matter what you believe in that is basically reducing women to nothing more than baby-creators. Soon Bush will be putting the American women into factories and they will only be good for reproducing.
