On Sunday, David and I made our way down to the North Carolina Zoo near Asheboro, NC. The original plan had been to go down on Saturday, but David was up late with his D&D group on Friday night and thus wasn't much up for an early Saturday departure ( Read more... )

I'm glad you guys had fun! I may have to check this zoo out!

Our mini-adventure for the weekend was dinner at The Isaacs Restaurant (http://theisaacsrestaurant.com/default.aspx) in the Grandin area. It was very tasty! And mucho veggie things on the menu. After that we strolled around the surrounding neighborhood looking at all the cool old houses. Then, we ambled back to the downtown area for fresh homemade ice cream at Pop's soda Fountain.

Yum -- the menu for Issac's does look tasty, and it sounds like you had quite a nice wander around the old neighborhood. :)

They do have a free tram that runs through the park with several stops, if walking the whole zoo with a family in tow becomes too much. I'm not sure it's very convenient if you're trying to see the whole zoo, but it could save a lot of energy if you're trying to, say, see the polar bears on one side and then the lions on the other side.
