I've got an article up at This Big City about a plan to make Chicago's downtown massively more sustainable.  This was a lot of fun to work on.  It's a very ambitious plan, and looks like a very good idea--if we can only get a decent mayor out of February's elections who'll support the thing.

It makes me smile to know that the Empire State Building (which has always been a very special place for me) is being brought into compliance with "green" principles. One of the first projects was upgrading the colored lights on the spire to energy-efficient components.

(And it would be really neat if they made it mixed-use... I'd live there, if I could afford it...)

They are replacing every single window in the building with energy-efficient new ones. The work is done at night, to minimize disruptions of business.

I love the fact that the "green" renovations are tied to restoring the Art Deco glamor of the original design.
