For a GPS/navigation program that does well, even compared with the standard Google Navigator, I recommend Waze. It is a social-networking navigation program, which means that user can alert each other of road conditions, traffic, police, etc. It also learns the routes that locals use (which might not be the routes standard routing algorithms find), and adds them to their recommends.

A widget that will let me access my camera from my home page. Maybe this is something in settings, rather than a separate app?

If your phone is at all like mine, you drag one of the default icons out of the bar at the bottom of the page and then drag the camera icon there and it will appear on all pages. Failing that, drag the camera icon to the main page (dragging icons left and right will usually allow you to hover over the periphery of the page and drop it on the next page, or the next for organizational purposes.)

You can play with what I've got installed on my tablet, at the end of the month, and see which of them (a) you'd enjoy and (b) would work well on a smaller screen. :-> I've got a Nexus 7, runs Android.
