france?

So...I'm thinking of studying abroad for July and August of next year in Angers, France.  I've never been away from home and I think it would be really good for me.  I don't know though...it would be scary!  I've never even been on a plane before!

I'll go to the Info Session in October and see what it's all about anyway.

I studied in Nice and Paris for 6 months. It was scary getting on the plane, but it was one of my favorite times in my life. I kinda wish I had stayed longer.

And I know rebeccafrog spent a year in Angers.
They have nifty tapistries there...

I would LOVE to study in Nice or Paris, I wish my school offered that. I bet it was very rewarding. Could you speak french before (or after!) you went there? I had the Canadian requirement of public school french class but something tells me that's way behind me now, ha ha.

I spoke...broken french before I went. Like, I sort of understood vocabulary, but had never been in a setting where I had to think in full french sentences for more than say...an hour a week. After I had been there a while, yeah, I was damn near close to fluent. I still dream in french occasionally, although my speaking ability has gone down hill.
There was another woman in the same group as me who actually didn't speak french at all when she went, had not even had a french 101 high school course. She managed to do pretty well by the end of our trip.

That's very relieving to hear! I know words but it's the grammar I'm intimidating by! I remember DR MRS VANDERTRAMP though! (sort of)

Thanks! :-)

I really want to go, but then I keep thinking of worst-case scenarios, like what if I hate it or find it difficult and my gpa suffers...maybe I should just stop discouraging myself and just go for it!

you should. if I had listened to my anxiety [and there was plenty of that] before hopping onto a plane for the States, I would never have gotten married. and maybe wouldn't have turned to veganism. you never know!
besides, if it doesn't work out? it's not a one-way trip. it never is.

well, I should say never have gotten married to Chaz. and ok, there is something that is a one-way trip, but let's not get somber, shall we?
