We're working our way through the second series of Yes Minister at the moment. It's superb; for all it was made over thirty years ago, it remains undated. I'm relishing the battle of wits between the drippy reformer Jim Hacker and the smug Machiavellian Sir Humphrey Appleby. I'd recommend this to everybody.

I was shown the first two series in graduate school: they were brilliant. I owned a book of the scripts briefly, before I gave them as an impulsive holiday gift to a friend's boyfriend whom I never saw again. There's probably some moral in there about altruism and lending copies, but they did seem to make him happy.

Epstein's statue Lucifer. He is a beautiful thing - Epstein used a female model for the head, male for the body.

There was at least an hour of wincing while I tried not to make the thyrsus too obviously phallic.

That is a beautiful sentence. Just saying.

but if you are really desperate to see me pretending to be a tapeworm complaining about its forthcoming eviction (in an accent that was meant to sound Cockney but turns into an atrocious Brummie Fagin) Google John Bull On The Slab.

That is also a great sentence, although a slightly more distressing image.

Good god, there is a Yes Minister fanfic community on here.

Thanks for the nice comments! Hopefully you will see Under Bacchus in the next two days. I do worry that I sound like the cliched barfly writer.

I have a slight crush on that Lucifer, I'll admit.
